On That Note

Apologies for the lack of a post last week - I was on I-95 northbound for 13 hours throughout the day with no ability to blog.  A brief visit to Florida did not yield any huge musical breakthrough but did serve as a nice miniature vacation.

While on my way back to the 757, I realized that Shapeshifter's remix of Empire of the Sun's "We Are the People" is among the top five songs I would choose if I was only able to listen to one song for the rest of my life.  After listening to it on repeat for long enough and recalling a few times in recent memory where I (did the same thing) thought to blog about the song, I decided that we would be "go for launch" this week.

The Australian (Empire) electronic duo meets British (Shapeshifters) house production duo in this masterpiece spells dynamite.  The track begins with a highly reflective introduction built on simple chord changes and basic rhythm.  This isn't changed much throughout the song.  Syncopation finds its niche in the song, adding tension whenever it joins the party.  The song's color palate is blue, white, and at times, light purple.  The song's tempo works brilliantly and picks up some amount of groove in the middle sections, enabling the track to be multipurpose (totally dance-able, but also just listenable).

Check it out - I doubt you'll regret.

Until next time
