On That Note

Since it's the day before Valentine's Day, I thought it be appropriate to write about music that fits the mold, music that you can play tomorrow that'll set the tone for scoring points, music that oozes romance.  Without further ado, here are a few thoughts:

1.  Any Romantic Era symphony.  Hope you get the connection...

2.  Debussy's Claire de Lune.  Unfortunately popularized in recent years by The Twilight Saga (the piece is used in the first movie of the series), the piano tune mentally brings most of those listening to it to a place very close to its title - "Moonlight."  Visually descriptive, the piece requires technical ability that few possess.  An orchestral arrangement, used in Ocean's Eleven, is fairly popular as well.  This piece is likely your best shot at warming the heart of your friend, especially if they are a girl.

3. Ravel's "Sunrise" excerpt from Daphnis et Chloe.  Like my second selection, this piece is extremely descriptive visually (despite being music) and brings its listener to a setting of its title [I personally don't know of another musical composition that does it as well - the first time I heard it, without having known its title 'Sunrise' envisioned a 'sunset.'].  It's warm texture is sure to stir the heart of whoever you may be trying to woo tomorrow.

4.  80% of Prince's music.

5.  "My Heart Will Go On"" as performed by Celine Dion.  Enough said.

6.  "I Want You to Want Me" by Cheap Trick.

Until Next Time
